The only hero I've ever known, my cousin Richard C. Hoffman, passed away last week. My life is filled with countless memories of Rich and his pivotal role in our family on so many levels. A highly decorated Marine Corps Sergeant, he served two tours in Vietnam, and eventually Agent Orange would wreak havoc on his body. While he wasn't KIA like so many of his friends in 'Nam, he is very much a casualty of that war, decades after he returned home. I have captured some audio of my conversation with "The Sarge" from Veteran's Day 2023, which now provides invaluable insights and recollections from his life.
I'm heartbroken that he is gone, but in the same breath, so very glad he was here. I wouldn't be the man I am today without him.

Hello John - thank you so much for this podcast. I am one of Marie’s Canadian cousins. Six years ago this month I spent 6 weeks getting radiation therapy in Chicago that I could not get in Canada. Rich opened his home to me and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be in the presence of such a wonderful man. I loved your Halloween stories - could picture Rich’s involvement in them. Is there any possibility of getting a copy of your podcast. I agree, Rich may be physically departed from this earth but hearing his voice for me tonight comforted me. Thank you for taping this segment with the Sarge - he, Marie and Betty got me through one of the most difficult periods of my life and there is no depth to my gratitude.

Johnny, so great to hear your voice…what a great tribute to such an amazing guy Richard our brother in Christ, may we always remember what he has meant to all of us. Thank you for the work you have done to make this happen. May the blessings continue….Philip J
